October 2009
Scotch Street, Portadown
Full planning permission has now been received for a residential development of 10 units within the small settlement of Scotch Street on a site presently occupied by the clients bungalow.
Andrew Nesbitt architects prepared a courtyard based layout incorporating a mix of townhouses and apartments set within carefully landscaped grounds to achieve this 10 fold increase in density on the site.
The result represents a maximum achievement for the client as the site access has limitations due to sight lines and Private Drive status normally allowing a maximum of 5 units.
The particular design and materials pallette were chosen to reflect the rural settlement location and draw on the best traditions of vernacular building types re-interpreted in a contemporary way. |
